Middle Extended Learning Time
Our Mission:
MELT will empower student socially and academically by providing unique, extended-day learning opportunities in partnerships with the school, families, and the community
A Typical Day
- Healthy Snack
- Academic Enrichment Hour 4:00-5:00
- Homework/Supervised free time with alternate activities 5:00-5:40
Activities vary daily. Students may work with staff or certified teachers to receive tutoring and participate in skill-building activities designed to complement their day-school learning. During enrichment hour, students participate in activities that expand on learning in ways that differ from the methods used during the school day. They often are interactive and project focused.
Early Release
On early release days, MELT provides varied community experiences for students. We may take field trips to sites in the Fox Cities, participate in service learning projects, or even host artist residencies on site.
Who we serve:
Middle Extended Learning Time is funded through a 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant from the Department of Public Instruction. The program began at Merrill Middle School in 2013 then expanded to Perry Tipler/ALPs in 2014 and Webster Middle School in 2019.
The program serves any student that is in need of a safe and fun place to go after school. Programs are designed to enrich learning experiences in an after school setting.
What is a 21st Century Community Learning Center?
This program supports the Creation of community learning centers that provide academic enrichment opportunities during non-school hours for children, particularly students who attend high-poverty and low-performing schools. The program helps students reach state and local standards in core academic subjects, such as reading and math; offers students a broad array of enrichment activities that can complement their regular academic programs, and offers literacy and other educational services to the families of participating children
